With Content Marketing increasing as a recognized method within the SEO industry to drive targeted traffic to your website and more and more businesses moving to take advantage of it, many are left wondering how their content will stand up to SEO industry standards and customer expectations.  The sad reality is, that a vast majority of businesses who operate some, if not all of their business online, don’t have a clue how to produce high quality, SEO friendly content and market it effectively online.

What is Content Marketing?

Content marketing is a term used to describe the process of creating useful and informative content to attract targeted website traffic in an effort to convert the traffic into customers and repeat buyers.  The most effective method is through email communication where targeted website traffic opts-in to your email list giving you permission to deliver content to them over an extended period of time.

Fluff is for Teddy Bears

Many businesses lack the understanding as to what comprehensive, quality content is and how to craft their content for an effective content marketing campaign.  As a result, they create content for their website and various internet marketing campaigns that is full of fluff and fails to provide true value to their customers.

Quality Means Repeat Buyers

As with any quality marketing campaign, quality content marketing created and done effectively can bring you highly targeted, quality customers who may become repeat buyers. Consumers are looking for information on the internet that solves a problem.  Your content should be created in a way that provides truly valuable information which solves a particular problem for your target audience.  However, content marketing isn’t just about solving consumer problems.  A major part of an effective marketing campaign is building a relationship with your target audience and gaining their trust while filling a need.  The best way to do this is to craft your content in a way that converses with your customer as though you are having a conversation with them.  Show genuine interest in your customers’ needs, and they will love and support you for all eternity.

Content marketing is burgeoning in the informational age--the internet is about information, really. I would contend with one part of this article: I think the most effective way to use content marketing is to add article content to your website or blog. You can optimize the content for SEO and draw new traffic. Also, I think email marketing is dying because people simply get too much of it. If you have your content on your site, they can find it when they need it, and you can direct them to your on-site conversion strategy.
  • It would be naive to assume that one method of content marketing is better than the other, but rather should be viewed as a smaller part of a larger overall content marketing strategy.

Article content is a powerful method of content marketing which helps brand and establish you and/or your business as an expert. SEO goes beyond simply optimizing the copy on your website however and should be considered when deciding what methods of content marketing you are going to rely upon.

I disagree with your assessment that email marketing is dying as it is simply an opinion and provides no relevant value to the topic of this post. Email marketing is a small, but lucrative part of content marketing and still the most effective method of converting customers into buyers. However, it is important to note that email marketing is only a part of an overall content marketing strategy where website owners take advantage of all that can be utilized such as article content, video distribution, social media, email campaigns and more.
