This morning I attended the Friday morning pep rally at my daughter’s elementary school as I do every week. Â Only on this morning, I noticed something that has always been present within the school’s culture, but never as obvious to me as it was today.
You see, I watched my daughter, who is now halfway through her 5th grade year, stand up from her class and walk over to a 3rd grade class and choose a little girl out of that class to come sit with her during the morning assembly. Â Now, I’ve watched my daughter do this before, only this time it really hit home with me and made me realize that we all need to take a lesson from elementary school again. My daughter, who is a proud 11 1/2 year old, participates in a school program called PAL, or “Peer Assisted Leadership”. Â She has been active with this program every year since the 3rd grade and loves every minute of it.
Through the PAL program, my daughter mentors and provides leadership to younger students in an effort to empower them to be the best they can be. Â The younger students gain a sense of pride and accomplishment as well as valuable knowledge on how to succeed as they work with the older students on various play and work activities. Â The program has been very rewarding for both my daughter and the students in which she mentors. Â The younger students learn from their PALs and receive guidance and leadership as they grow and mature throughout the school year. Â This guidance and leadership is then passed down to other younger students up and coming as the participants get older. Â This collective of shared leadership and knowledge enables all the students who participate to develop into a successful, thriving student, leader and mentor for others as they progress in their school career and life.
This simple concept of community and leadership inspired me to write todays post. Through the PAL program, my daughter is taught a sense of community, leadership and mentoring. Â This is an example we should all be following as we continue to strive for success online. Â As an internet entrepreneur and problogger, I spend much of my time following top bloggers and leaders within my industry. Â I read their posts, retweet their articles, comment and provide feedback as well as additional value, and write guest posts and network with them. Â I value their leadership and mentoring as I believe in continuous education and always strive to further educate myself about how to continue to succeed within my industry.
How Does This Relate to You?
As an aspiring internet entrepreneur and online business owner one of the most important things you should be doing is to follow top leaders and popular bloggers within your niche market.  Learn from them, network with them and allow them to become your mentors.  My friend Kary Rogney calls this Tribe Syndication and Michael Martine labels it a Wolf Pack.  If you’re not doing this, then you’re greatly reducing your chances of success online as it is the number one most effective method to driving massive amounts of traffic to your website.
You should:
- Follow them on Twitter and Facebook
- Retweet their blog posts
- Comment frequently on their blogs
- Interview them by asking good questions that provide value to your readers
- Write guest posts for the popular blogs in your niche
- Link back to content and posts on their blogs
Leaders exist in every industry. Â You can learn from them and allow them to mentor you. Â Applying the lessons you learn from industry leaders will save you a great deal of time and money as your internet presence and online business continues to grow. Â This is by far the best and most effective method to generating traffic to your website or blog. Â Retweeting their content and commenting on their blogs allows you to establish a relationship with them and builds trust. Â Once you’ve done so, you can submit a guest post to them which they can then post on their blog. Â This allows you to tap into their blog traffic, as well as establish industry credibility. Â Help to build a community around your industry leaders and you will find that community will transcend to you as you share and post their valuable content. Â This is the way of the internet and a sense of community is necessary if you ever hope to achieve success online.
Become a leader and mentor yourself by retweeting and sharing this post.
